All About Skin Positivity

ESTIMATE 4-MINUTES READ

If you're anything like us, then you love your skin. But we know that sometimes it can be tough to love it unconditionally — especially when society tells us that our skin isn't good enough. That's where the skin positivity movement comes in: a movement that encourages everyone to embrace their natural skin tone and texture, no matter what it is. In this blog post, we'll talk all about the skin positivity movement and how you can get involved! We'll also discuss the best ways to care for your skin, based on your specific needs. And, be sure to spread the word for July 8th's Love Your Skin day.

What is The Skin Positivity Movement?

Embracing All Skin Conditions, Real Skin

The skin positivity movement is about celebrating all skin types and conditions — including blemishes, scars, acne, wrinkles, stretch marks, and more. It's also about accepting that there is no such thing as "perfect" skin, despite societal pressures. Everyone's skin is different, and that's what makes us beautiful!

The movement started as a way to combat the negative messages that society often sends about our skin. For too long, we've been told that we need to have perfect skin in order to be beautiful or worthy of love. But the truth is, our skin is just like any other part of our body: it's strong, resilient, and capable of so much more than we give it credit for.

Skin positivity has touched social media as well, with people posting instagram content like bare faced selfies and other forms of media in order to promote skin acceptance.

How to Participate in the Skin Positive Movement

So, how can you get involved in the skin positivity movement?

Here are a few ideas:

-Share your own skin story.

This can be done through social media, blogging, or even just talking to your friends and family about your experiences with your skin.

-Be kind to yourself and others.

Remember that everyone is on their own journey when it comes to their skin, so be patient and understanding with yourself and others.

-Educate yourself and others about the different types of skin conditions.

There's no shame in having acne, eczema, psoriasis, or any other type of skin condition — but sadly, many people still don't understand that. By educating yourself and others about these conditions, you can help break down the stigma surrounding them.

-Support brands and businesses that embrace all types of skin.

When you see a company promoting positive messages about skin positivity, be sure to give them your business!

-Talk to your doctor about your skin concerns.

If you're struggling with a specific skin condition, it's important to talk to a medical professional who can help you find the best treatment options.

Remember To Care for Your Skin

The goal in using skin-positive products is to give your complexion the TLC it deserves, no matter what your skin is like to begin with.

-Start with a clean slate.

Always wash your face before applying any products, using a gentle cleanser that won't strip your skin of its natural oils. Just as there are many types of skin, there are also different types of cleanser to suit them. For instance, if you have acne prone skin, a cleanser with tea tree might provide a detox for pores.

-Find products that work for you.

On that note, just because a product is expensive or popular doesn't mean it's right for you. Do some research to find skin care products that are tailored to your specific needs. Some products would be better for those with rosacea while others are good for dry skin.

-Don't forget the sunscreen!

No matter what time of year it is, always apply sunscreen before going outside. This will help protect your skin from harmful UV rays and prevent premature aging.

Now that you know the ins-and-outs of the skin positive movement, it's time to go and show yourself some self love as well! Waiting for your skin to "clear up" is not living. You are worthy and deserving of love and respect — no matter what your skin looks like. So go out there and show the world your beautiful face!
