Tanning Drops FAQ
How do I apply the drops for an even, streak-free glow?
Exfoliate first, then moisturize very dry spots (elbows, knees, ankles). Mix 5–6 drops into your face or body moisturizer or serum—enough to spread easily—and apply in smooth, even layers, building color over days if you want more depth.
Blend past wrists and ankles, and finish hands and feet with whatever is left on your palms so you do not overload those areas.
How long does it take to develop?
Your color typically develops gradually over about 6 to 8 hours, the way DHA-based tans usually do.
Give it at least 15 minutes before sweating, showering, or swimming so the blend can settle on the skin.
How long does the tan last?
Most people see about 5–7 days of wear, depending on your routine and how often you exfoliate.
Moisturize daily, ease up on harsh scrubs, and pat—do not rub—skin dry after showers to help the fade stay even.
Is it safe for sensitive skin?
Our formula is dermatologist-tested, vegan, cruelty-free, and made in the USA.
We still recommend a patch test 24 hours before a full application, and we suggest pausing use if irritation appears.
What if I'm not happy with my order?
We stand behind what we make—each formula is crafted with care.
We are confident you will love your glow, and we back that with a 60-day money-back guarantee.
If anything misses the mark, contact our support team and we will make it right.
Why use drops instead of instant bronzers or synthetic dyes?
These drops rely on DHA, an ingredient that works with your skin to build a sunless glow—without relying on cosmetic dyes or temporary bronzers to fake depth on the surface.
That keeps the experience closer to skincare you already use: mix-in, buildable, and easy to dial up over time.
What does "no toxic ingredients" mean for this formula?
We formulate with a clean-minded approach: no parabens, sulfates, or phthalates in the mix.
If you have specific ingredient questions, check the product label or reach out—we are happy to help you compare options.
Will this look orange on me?
We design for a natural-looking bronze—not a loud, artificial tint.
Start with fewer drops mixed into moisturizer or serum, let your color develop, then add more on another day if you want richer tone; that gradual approach is the easiest way to keep results looking like your skin, just warmer.
Will the drops stain my sheets or clothes?
Once the drops are mixed into moisturizer and fully absorbed, the formula is designed not to transfer. The one catch is the in-between window: give the blend at least 5–10 minutes to dry down before you get dressed or slide into bed.
If you want extra insurance the first few nights, wear loose dark cotton and use sheets you don't baby. DHA can leave a light tint on fabric if it contacts skin before the color has set, but it does not typically leave a permanent stain and washes out with a normal wash cycle in most cases.
How do these compare to Isle of Paradise or Drunk Elephant D-Bronzi?
They share the "mix-into-your-moisturizer" format, which is why people love drops in the first place — you pick the moisturizer, you pick the depth, no extra step in your routine.
Where Clean Glow Drops are different: we lead with a clean-ingredient formula (no parabens, no synthetic dyes, no added fragrance in the base blend) and we pair the DHA with botanical extracts instead of heavy pigments. That means the color you see day one is light — then it deepens into a real bronze over 8–12 hours, rather than giving you a bronzer-style instant tint that washes off.
The right product really is a preference call. If you want instant color for a single night out, an instant bronzer wins. If you want a buildable, skincare-native tan you can keep adding to, drops win.
Is DHA safe? I've seen some scary posts online.
Short answer: yes, topical DHA is one of the most-studied self-tan actives there is. It's been FDA-approved for cosmetic topical use since 1977 and is the active ingredient in the vast majority of self-tanners on the market.
DHA works by reacting with amino acids in the very top layer of skin — the dead cells that naturally slough off every few days. That's why color fades over about a week as your skin turns over. Nothing penetrates deeper than the outer stratum corneum.
The main cautions you'll see online are about inhaling or ingesting DHA from spray booths (a different exposure route) or about applying it to broken skin or lips/eyes (we don't recommend that either). For normal topical use on healthy skin — the way our drops are designed — it's a well-tolerated, decades-old cosmetic active.
Can I mix drops into my SPF moisturizer?
Yes—just know the order of operations. Your SPF should always be the last daytime layer so it can form an even film.
Mix drops into a separate moisturizer or serum first, let it absorb, then apply sunscreen on top as usual. At night, you can mix drops into any moisturizer you like without SPF.
How many drops should I use on face vs body the first time?
Face: start with 1–2 drops in a dime-size amount of moisturizer or serum, blend evenly, and build on another night if you want more depth.
Body: start with 3–6 drops per limb-sized area mixed into enough lotion to glide without dragging—then adjust after you see how your color develops.
Are drops OK for oily or acne-prone skin?
Many customers with combination or oily skin use drops because they control the carrier—pick a lightweight, non-comedogenic moisturizer you already trust.
Avoid broken or actively inflamed breakouts, patch test if you are acne-prone, and if anything stings or worsens congestion, pause and check in with your dermatologist.
What kind of moisturizer works best to mix with the drops?
Choose a plain cream or lotion without strong acids (AHAs/BHAs) in the same step—those can shift how DHA develops.
Hyaluronic, ceramide-rich, or simple body lotions work great. Oils alone can be tricky; if you love body oil, layer lotion first, then a small amount of oil if needed once the tan has set.
Can I use drops two nights in a row for a deeper tan?
Yes—that is one of the easiest ways to deepen color gradually. Let the first application fully develop (about 6–8 hours), assess in daylight, then add another thin layer the next night.
Going slow beats dumping in extra drops on night one, which is when streaking and uneven tone usually show up.
Do the drops have a scent? Is there added fragrance?
The formula is made without synthetic fragrance in the base blend—what you may notice is a light, typical self-tan note from DHA as it develops, which fades for most people after the first shower.
If you are sensitive to smell, apply in the evening and rinse with a gentle body wash the next morning.
