The Importance of Hydration in Skin Care

ESTIMATE 1-MINUTES READ

Is your skin yearning for moisture? Just as we need to drink plenty of water for our body to function at its best, skin requires hydration in order to maintain its quality. There's a lot of misunderstanding surrounding it, so we're here to set the record straight about the importance of hydration in skin care. (And to steer you towards some wonderfully nourishing products to bring that dew back to you.)

Hydration vs. Oil

Oi. If your first thought was, "Wait, they're different?" then we've got some news. Oil is definitely not the same as hydration. A lot of people, especially those with oily or combination skin types, will opt out of moisturizers and others for fear of making the situation worse. Dehydration actually causes the skin to produce more oil as a defense mechanism against dehydration. Moisturizers add water (not oil) to your skin, thus hydrating the area. Fret not, BBE even makes an Oil Control Moisturizer.

Hydration's Role

Now that we've cleared the air, what exactly does hydration—through both water and product—do for your skin?

Improves Quality

Without moisture, your skin is more likely to become irritated, flaky, and dull. Decreased water retention puts a damper on how supple and healthy your face appears. And, if you aren't drinking enough water, your body won't be able to flush toxins out as readily, which can cause breakouts and other issues.

Slows Aging

Proper hydration encourages cell turnover, slowing the effects of aging. Wrinkles thrive on dry complexions. As you get older, your skin begins to lose its elasticity and naturally becomes drier, making hydrating products vital.

Product on hand

Beauty by Earth's Anti-Aging Face Cream incorporates ultra-moisturizing ingredients like Aloe Vera and Argan oil that your skin is sure to drink up.

Protects Your Skin Barrier

The skin barrier is the outermost layer of your skin, and thus your skin's first line of defense against outside pollutants, toxins, stressors, and other unsavory things. Keeping your skin hydrated through sufficient water and supplementary products will help your body maintain this barrier. Another one of our favorites is our Hydrating Face Mask.

Hydration's importance in skin care is nothing to underestimate. So, be sure to satisfy your skin's thirst by drinking plenty of water and investing in hydrating products, such as a good moisturizer, to keep things going strong.

Stay hydrated! 💧
