Our formulas skip parabens, synthetic dyes, and harsh synthetic fragrances — common irritants in conventional self-tanners. Organic aloe and shea butter are doing real hydration work, not just label dressing.

That said, DHA is an active ingredient and everyone's skin is different. We always recommend a patch test on your inner arm or jawline 24 hours before a full application, especially if you have eczema, rosacea, or reactive skin.

Can I use self-tanner while pregnant or nursing?

Topical self-tanner is generally considered low-risk during pregnancy because DHA isn't absorbed into the bloodstream in meaningful amounts — it only reacts on the skin's surface. Many of our customers use it throughout pregnancy and prefer it over UV exposure.

We still recommend checking with your OB or midwife before starting any new product while pregnant or nursing, and doing a patch test first. Avoid applying directly to nipples if you're breastfeeding until fully washed off.

When should I shower after applying?

Wait at least 6–8 hours before getting the application area wet — that's how long DHA needs to fully develop. Most people apply before bed, sleep in loose dark clothing, and rinse off the guide color or excess product in the morning.

When you do shower, use lukewarm water and skip aggressive scrubbing for the first 24 hours. Pat dry instead of rubbing so you don't disturb the developing color on day one.

Can I use the same product on my face and body?

Our body lotion and mousse work beautifully on neck, chest, and arms, and many customers use them on the face with good results. For facial application, go lighter — one thin layer, avoid the hairline, and blend into the jaw and ears.

Will it stain my sheets or clothes?

The product can transfer to fabric while it's developing, especially in the first few hours. Wear loose, dark clothing to bed and avoid white sheets on application night — old pajamas you don't mind are perfect.

Any light transfer usually washes out on a normal cycle. Wash your hands and nails immediately after applying, and wipe down your mitt and any surfaces you touched. Once the tan has developed and you've rinsed off, transfer is minimal.

Which shade should I choose?

When in doubt, go one shade lighter than you think — you can always add a second layer after 24 hours, but you can't undo a too-dark application. Fair and cool-toned skin usually loves our Fair to Medium shades; warm medium tones do well with Medium; deeper complexions reach for Medium to Dark or Dark.

What is DHA and why is it in clean self-tanners?

DHA (dihydroxyacetone) is a colorless plant-derived sugar. Our Self Tanner Body Lotion uses sugar cane derived DHA — Dihydroxyacetone (DHA) (Sugar Cane Derived) on the INCI. It's the active ingredient in virtually every self-tanner because it's the only FDA-approved additive for sunless tanning — and it works by reacting with proteins in dead skin cells, not by dyeing you.

"Clean" doesn't mean DHA-free; it means the surrounding formula avoids parabens, synthetic dyes, harsh fragrances, and unnecessary chemicals. Our DHA is plant-derived, ECOCERT certified, and non-GMO, paired with organic aloe, shea butter, and naturally derived scent.

What's the difference between mousse, lotion, and drops?

The body lotion is the easiest entry point — it applies like a rich moisturizer, dries quickly, and is the most forgiving if you're new to self-tanning. The mousse has a lightweight foam texture that spreads fast over large areas like legs and is a favorite before events.

Drops are concentrated and mix into your face or body moisturizer, so you control the depth drop by drop. Many customers use lotion or mousse for body and drops for face. All three use the same plant-derived DHA and clean ingredient base.

What prep do I need before my first application?

Twenty-four hours before, exfoliate everywhere you plan to tan — use a gentle scrub or exfoliating mitt, not an oil-based scrub that leaves residue. Shave or wax at least 24 hours ahead so pores aren't open during application.

Day of: shower, skip heavy lotions except on dry spots (knees, elbows, ankles), and make sure your skin is completely dry before you start. Have a tanning mitt, dark loose clothes, and 15 minutes of uninterrupted time. First time? Do legs or arms only so you can see how your skin reacts before going full body.
